Taking feedback and working on game updates.

First off thank you for playing the game and giving me feedback!

I am taking all the feedback I get from players and working to make the game better.  If you try the competition version of the game please reach out with your thoughts so I can have as many different viewpoints as possible.

Battle system tweaks coming on next release.

For the competition I wasn't 100% happy with the battle system but it is coming along.  I had to ship something though so I set the bar kinda low for myself.  I have had enough time, and sleep, to playtest the battle system.    And it's obvious that it needs to be revamped so that the average player approach is slowed down a bit.  The more frantic pace the player takes toward battles, the more likely they are to struggle with picking up how the battles work.

So I will be making the battle pause, or maybe just slow down, when you select a special attack.  And I'm going to make the attack relative to a target cursor that you control rather than the player character.  That will give you more control over strategy and the movement will mainly be dodging and bullet spraying.

I believe that by making the animal cards much more deliberate and powerful that they will feel much more valuable.   I do want the people who enjoy blasting away to be able to play the game as well though.  I had thought of the moral choice of an animal that doesn't want to be mind controlled, mind controlling other animals and offering a special bonus if you don't do it.  But that isn't in the current version.  I prefer the character ambiguous and a bit smarmy and self centered.  That would mean that he wouldn't really empathize with the other animals as much.  But I might not need to get that deep. :D

Working on artwork updates and style consolidation.

I hadn't worked on a game in a while when I started this project.  And I kinda bumbled through making pixel art at the beginning of the process.  As I worked I stumbled onto a style that I liked, and redid characters in that style. there are several things that are still in the old style or that don't follow the same style rules that I developed as I worked on the game.  So I've got to go back and follow those rules a bit closer.

I'm really sorry that I didn't get enough time to really make the artwork in the battle system shine.  It was a complex piece of coding and the looting and level system and cutscene systems all being built from scratch took so much time that I had to prioritize.   And I figured that you would be able to overlook some really god awful programmer art :D

Moving forward with the game...

I'm excited about being able to work on this without the time pressure of the contest looming over me.  The game systems are mostly in place and at this point it's just adding hours and hours of content. :P (Otherwise known as the work of game development.)

I have a script outline that takes the characters through a pretty massive story.  I'm sure I will wind up trimming that down, or perhaps breaking it into episodes.  I'm not sure yet.

Either way I won't be able  to release an update until after the competition is over.  So hopefully I'll have something worthwhile by then!  I'll post updates as I have things worth sharing.
